Sunset armsocks by StarTyrian Sunset armsocks by StarTyrian
A knitting commission: sunset arm warmers for ~Wijiic. Hand dyed, hand spun, and hand knitted with love! And also intense scientific interest, because that's a lotta colors to get into such a short piece of roving. I had to develop a new dyeing technique to make it work. Damn I'm good. :D

They're fraternal rather than identical twins, I'm afraid; I split the roving a bit unevenly, so one is a touch shorter than the other. Like one centimeter. This happens with handcrafts; a small imperfection keeps the gods from getting angry. This is the first time I've made a yarn this thin by Navajo plying, so of course I had to go around showing everyone in the house. And of course they had no idea why I was so excited, and just patted me on the head and said 'Er... good boy?' in baffled tones. :)

Those are totally lovely! The dyeing is awesome...

Haha, almost every time I knit/crochet something, it ends up somehow different size it was ment to. I guess it's just natural.

Thanks!

Sounds like your tension varies a lot. Time and practice should smooth that out.

No prob.

Hm. That might be true, though I've done this practising since I was about 9...that'd make 12 years...and I knit a lot. :D

Haha, it even crossed my mind when I wrote that: "What if I say practice more and it turns out she's been doing it forever? I'll look a right pillock then!" :D

Maybe your tension is different when you swatch? I've had that problem sometimes; I'm paying close attention to the swatch, so I knit tighter, and then when I get into the actual project I relax and my stitches loosen up.

That's possible, too. :D I think I should pay closer attention in all my knitting/crochetting. :D I often do it when I watch movies or when I sit in a class at school...

I'd suggest the opposite: watch a movie while you do your swatch. Then you'll get your relaxed gauge right off the bat.

Hm, maybe I'll try that out. Thanks. :D I just got a bunch of new, exiting knitting tutorials and some random yarns, so it's good to start now. ^_^

These are beautiful :D

A question! Do you know when you will once again open these glorious commission slots? I have a nefarious plan for a friend's present.

If the gods smile, two weeks or even less. If the gods point and laugh while I fall down stairs... a month? To tell the truth, I thought I'd be done by now even with six slots, but I have been providing slapstick comedy for the universe lately. :D

If I do open in time for your idea to work, be sure and let me know about the present deadline.

Oh, that's perfect, since the birthday in question is in December. Delightful 8D! I shall wait for slots to open with glee now.
